9 "healthy habits" that are false

Every day we follow routines that we think are good for our health, but we never stop to think if really work or not.

From using hand sanitizer to avoiding fat in order not to gain weight, these are some of the "Healthy habits" that you should stop doing now.

1. Eat only low-fat foods

What really it matters, it's the type of fat, not the amount. There are healthy fats, such as those found in nuts, fish or avocado, that are really good for health and that we should incorporate into our diets, but always in moderation like everything.

When we buy low-fat, fat-free, or low-calorie foods, we are most likely choosing foods loaded with chemicals. In addition, there are studies that show that these types of foods are not as effective as we think in reducing the risk of some diseases, or in losing weight.

Instead, it's best to go for whole, natural foods that haven't been processed. And highlight the quality over the quantity of the fats we eat.

2. Avoid gluten

Unless you have celiac disease, gluten has no negative effect.

3. Avoid using the microwave for cooking

We've all heard that using the microwave makes food lose nutrients, but this is completely false.

Microwave ovens heat food by causing the molecules to vibrate rapidly. Some nutrients are lost when food is heated, but this is true regardless of how the food is heated.

4. Take juices as substitutes for fruit

It is not correct to think that with juices we can get all the benefits of fresh fruit and vegetables.

When grinding fruit and vegetables I know remove all fiber, but all sugar is preserved.

In the short term, a diet high in sugar and low in protein does not calm hunger, and is often associated with mood swings and low energy, and in the long term, it could also lead to muscle wasting, as muscles depend on protein.

5. Take multivitamin complexes

Many people think that they will be healthier that way, but really has no justification.

Studies show that with diet, as a general rule, we obtain sufficient amounts of vitamins, without the need for any supplement.

6. Take tons of vitamin C to avoid a cold

While a little more vitamin C can boost immune system performance, taking too much will have the opposite effect.

More than 2,000 milligrams a day of vitamin C a day can cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, heartburn, headaches, and other side effects.

7. Use hand sanitizer

If you wash your hands regularly during the day, use a hand sanitizer it's unnecessary.

Disinfectants they are not as effective at killing germs like soap and water. Some germs are immune to sanitizing gels.

8. Brush your teeth right after every meal
